James at A Tolkienist’s Perspective was kind enough to nominate TolkienBlog.com for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award. Thank you, James! I really appreciate it.
I did a little research on this award. I’m not sure where it started, but it’s a way to connect bloggers and readers. Of course it’s meant to honor bloggers, but I think the main purpose is to highlight other like-minded bloggers. I think it’s a great idea!
James mentioned that there are two rules for the award. They are as follows:
1) The nominee shall display the Very Inspiring Blogger Award logo on her/his blog, and link to the blog they got nominated from.
2) The nominee shall nominate fifteen (15) bloggers she/he admires, by linking to their blogs and informing them about it.
There are so many wonderful blogs out there. I know I don’t have to stick to a particular topic, but most of these will be Tolkien-related.
More on the academic side of things. I love that he verifies quotes attributed to Tolkien.
Middle-earth & J.R.R. Tolkien by Michael Martinez
I’ve been reading Michael Martinez since 2002. He has a great knowledge of Tolkien’s world and he does a wonderful job communicating it.
University of Arda
I love the mix of seriousness and humor that seems to exist uniquely on tumblr. This is one of the best Tolkien tumblrs I’ve seen.
An old favorite of mine. The sarcasm is delicious.
I’ve never been able to get too much into Tolkien’s languages, but I appreciate those who are. David Salo is one of the big ones out there.
I loved, loved, loved Tolkien and the Great War when I read it six or seven years ago. John Garth doesn’t get into Tolkien a whole lot in his blog, but I have so much respect for him.
Tolkien: Medieval and Modern
A collection of essays written by students of a Tolkien class. I love the idea of sharing students’ thoughts with the internet.
It’s amazing to me that there’s a “competing” site for theonering.net. Middle-earth News does a great job!
I haven’t read a ton of this, but he actually analyzed each and every page of The Lord of the Rings. Talk about inspiring dedication!
Notion Club Papers
I love that someone blogs about such an obscure Tolkien writing! There’s more to it than just The Notion Club Papers, but still.
Okay, not exactly a blog, but I think it should still count. Her cosplay is jaw-dropping.
Rattle and Burn (Silmarillion Cosplayer)
Another cosplayer. I love that she does a lot of Silmarillion cosplay. We need more of that in the world!
Ask About Middle-earth
Another tumblr. I admire someone who is willing to answer any question someone might have. I’d be afraid of being stumped–or worse, proved wrong!
A recent discovery of mine. I’m not sure why it’s taken me this long to learn about Corey Olsen, but I’m so glad I did! Very academic, but also very passionate and entertaining.
To call myself a Tolkien collector maybe be a slight exxageration. But I love the idea of being one this serious.
